IOTC's February 2012 First Friday speaker, Rita Marker, J.D., presented "Doctor-Prescribed Suicide: The Least Expensive 'Medical Treatment.' " Dr. Marker detailed the current practice, by some in the medical community, of recommending death as a medical treatment. Rita, a practicing attorney and the executive director of the Patients Rights Council, gave example after example of dangerous practices, which are being mainstreamed into medical care.
Rita Marker is the author of the critically acclaimed book, DEADLY COMPASSION (WM. Morrow & Co., 1993; Harper/Collins, 1994; Avon Books, 1995). She was an adjunct professor of Political Science & Ethics at the University of Steubenville, Ohio, and she has made presentations and debated in Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, France, Belgium, England, Australia, Canada, Colombia, Switzerland, Slovenia and the United States.
